Wishing for a Change…Or Not

July 19, 2014

This week I found myself longing for Fall. No, not because the weather has been unbearable–it’s actually been pretty nice. Although, talk to me in August, I may be singing a different tune! Things have been a little hectic since the beginning of summer. We went to Baton Rouge, had the wedding of a good friend in town, then I went to PA, then had an out of town guest, then my parents came, and after that it was July 4th weekend with lots of activity. And in between some of it I was trying to pick up extra shifts at work.

From our travels and adventures:

{The state capitol in Baton Rouge, LA}
{Pictures from a run around the lake in BR}
{Corey’s younger brother–and his wife–after his law school graduation}
 {Making cupcakes for my awesome friend’s wedding}
{Pre-wedding with my sister and SVP}
{The newlyweds. This makes me so happy.}
 {Cece torturing my parents’ dog at home in PA.}
{Cece loving the PA countryside.}
{More people to snuggle with?! She’ll take it!}
{Laura’s visit. Poor Laura, not a dog lover, but Cece didn’t give her much of an option.}
Oh my! We’ve had so much fun this summer, but we had been so active–here and there and in between. This is when I started longing for Fall. I thrive on routine and a certain order to life. To me, Fall represents the return of routine. The hectic pace of summer slows down, we get to see our friends on a regular basis, things just seem to fall into place without a lot of effort.
This week things did seem to slow down, though. I cleaned the house and spent some time de-cluttering. And most importantly, I got to spend some time catching up with friends. Like good quality time, the kind that leaves you feeling refueled and encouraged. I am so grateful for the community we have here in Durham. Each person is such an important part of our lives.
I’m now looking forward to a slow couple of weeks before we join the entire Brady family at the beach for Brady Vacay 2014. We are so so excited!

Last week was our week. ❤️ And even though I thrive on routine and a schedule, getting up early to leisurely read my Bible for an hour with a latte in hand was the reminder I needed to slow down and listen to what He has to say to me.

I’m pretty sure I had the biggest crush on him w I’m pretty sure I had the biggest crush on him when he snapped this picture. So I did what any reasonable person would do and told him I had no interest in dating him 🙈. To his credit, he just continued to be the very best friend to me. Until I decided enough was enough and told him in a very cryptic and roundabout way that I liked him. He responded by standing up and walking out my back door 😂. Against those odds, we’ve made it all these years. He’s still the funniest, kindest person I’ve ever known. And I still have the biggest crush on him.
We paused our history unit on the US Constitution We paused our history unit on the US Constitution to learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. on #mlkday. We watched a read aloud of I Am Martin Luther King and did some writing about his legacy. But we spent most of our time talking. They had lots of really good thoughts and ideas and questions and I sat and listened and answered. What a privilege to not only teach them, but learn alongside them. It was a good day.

She’s becoming more grown up every day. We’ve had our ups and downs, our triumphs and frustrations. But it has been a joy to witness her blossom into the person she is today.
